Cover Reveal: THE ORB AND THE AIRSHIP by Jenelle Schmidt

An ambitious youth. An opportunity of a lifetime. A clash of powers beyond his imagining.

Good morning, friends, and happy Friday! I am here today with some extremely exciting news–news that I have been over the moon excited to share with you all for quite some time now!

If you’re following a similar sphere of the writing community as I am, you may have witnessed a cover reveal taking over Instagram and the blogsphere! This is, of course, in celebration of my dear friend and fairy godmother’s upcoming release, THE ORB AND THE AIRSHIP, which is set to hit shelves June 16, 2023!

For those not interested in doing math, THIS IS ONLY FOUR MONTHS AWAY!!!

I have been following Jenelle for quite a chunk of time now (#stalkerlevel), and I know just from the snippets she has shared of her process with this book how very much this story–and its upcoming subsequent series–means to her. Jenelle has a way of spinning words into magic, and I am so excited to not only read this book very soon, but to play even a tiny part in sharing the news about its release with the world!

And so, without further ado, let’s begin the cover reveal!

THE BLURB

A rogue airship captain. An ambitious youth. A clash of powers beyond their imagination.

With scholarships to a prestigious military school, Grayden and Wynn are thirsty for adventure. But the night before they leave, they discover the mysterious Dalmir and his arcane orb in the forsaken tower outside of town. The old man, who seems to have a wealth of knowledge of what came before and yet so little of the now, insists on accompanying them as they travel to the academy.

Meanwhile, all pirate Captain Marik wants is to keep to the skies, take his due, and care for his crew. Then a straightforward pillaging mission on a ship of fresh academy students leads to betrayal from one of his own and an unlikely friendship forged by necessity.

Yet this new alliance stirs up ancient foes and a conflict too terrible to ignore. Despite Grayden’s inexperience and Marik’s skepticism, working together with Dalmir is their only option.

The fate of the world depends on it.

A clean steampunk fantasy adventure filled with steadfast friendship, brotherhood, twisty politics, and epic airship battles.

First in the Turrim Archive series:

The Orb and the Airship

Mantles of Oak and Iron

Hearts of Stone and Steel

The Prisoner and the Pirate

Towers of Might and Memory

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m kind of drooling over this cover. Steampunk is one of my favorite genres–one that I wish I had the wherewithal to write for myself–and as soon as I saw the word “airship” in the title, I knew I was gonna have to preorder this book.

Also can we just appreciate the DETAIL ON THIS COVER, THOUGH. Like seriously. LOOK AT THIS THING.

I just want this book in my hands so I can take pretty pictures of it and set it up on my shelf. Is that too much to ask?!

Anywayyyy. If you’re not yet following Jenelle on social media, make sure to fix that error immediately. I’m not kidding when I say she’s like the fairy godmother of writing and indie publishing. I have learned so much from this amazing writer, and her blog (and instagram!) are full of encouragement and resources that you do not want to miss out on. (her indie publishing summer school series in particular is one that I have read and reread multiple times. seriously check that one out if you’re interested in learning more about the craft!) You can find the links to her socials down below, so make sure to give her a follow and a shoutout!

Also, for anyone interested in helping bring this series to life, Jenelle is also starting a Kickstarter campaign for not just THE ORB AND THE AIRSHIP, but for the entire Turrim Archives! You can find the link to that right here!

And, lastly, for all my fellow readers out there who are currently wanting very desperately to get their hands on this book, might I recommend perusing some of Jenelle’s previous works, such as AN ECHO OF THE FAE, which was one of my all-time favorite reads of 2022! It’s the perfect MG tale to tithe you over until you can sink your teeth into this fantastical realm of pirate captains, airships, and adventurous youths!

ADD THE ORB AND THE AIRSHIP ON GOODREADS

talk to me, peasants!

Friends! Tell me what you think of this cover! I’m honestly so excited to get my copy and to dive into this world that Jenelle has created! For all my cover connoisseurs out there, tell me what you love most about book covers! For me, I really dig some good, unusual lettering. The title of the book plays a major part in me wanting to purchase it, and the best way to get that title stuck in my head is to give it some fun lettering that you don’t see everyday. I also do love bright colors–such as greens and yellows and blues. What can I say? I’m a color enthusiast. XD
